Season 2012/13

Welcome to the newsletter and the fast approaching start to the new tennis season.  Burton Leonard Tennis Club (BLTC) is an established part of village life having thrived since its formation in 1969.  There are currently approximately 80 members comprising equal numbers of adults and juniors.  The club is always keen to welcome new members and the fees for the coming year will remain the same as last year representing excellent value for money.  

 The club offers the opportunity for members to become involved in the following:

•       The use of two tarmac courts.
•       Annual tournament and BBQ for adults and juniors.
•       Social tennis at club sessions.
•       Weekly fun hour for primary age juniors during summer term.
•       Summer coaching week by LTA coach for juniors.
•       Ladies doubles/mixed doubles friendly matches against local clubs.
•       An opportunity to play in the Harrogate &  District Tennis League (HDTL) .
•       An opportunity for Junior members to enter the The Black Sheep Junior League.
•       Social events and fundraisers organised throughout the year.

Last Seasons Results and Match dates for coming season:

The mixed doubles team came a commendable 4^th out of the 12 teams participating in Division 6 of the HDTL.

Our Juniors proved to be natural competitors by winning The Black Sheep Junior League in their first year of entering the competition.  A very well done to all team players who represented Burton Leonard Tennis Club last season.  We wish everyone all the very best for the coming season. 

Please note that the courts will be in use for HDTL home matches this season on the following dates:

MAY 8^th, 15^th,22^nd   June 26^th   July 24^th   August 14^th     from 6.15 pm onwards.

Weekly Calendar

Monday – Club evening (adult members) from 6.30pm
Tuesday- Home League matches – selected dates above from 6.30pm
Wednesday – Available to use by members
Thursday – Junior fun hour (7-11 yr olds) 6.30 to 7.30pm – please pre-book your place
Friday – Available to use by members
Saturday – Club morning (adult members) from 10am
Sunday – Team practice 3-5 pm

The courts are available to use by members only and can be used at any time subject to the above weekly calendar.

JUNIOR FUN HOUR FOR ALL 7 -11 YEAR OLD MEMBERS.

Every Thursday evening during the summer term 6.30 – 7.30 pm, unfortunately we have to limit the number of places to 16.   Please make sure that a fun hour registration form is completed before you join in the fun (available from link below). And it’s also really important that an adult or other nominated person in ‘loco parentis’  is at the tennis courts for the duration of the session.  For further info or to register please contact Caroline Barr.  Thank You.

Summer Coaching week with Jack Pullen – LTA Registered Coach

Monday July 23^rd – Friday July 27^th 2012

9.00 – 10.30              Junior School age
10.30. – 12.30           Senior School age

This is a great opportunity for juniors to progress their game to a higher level.
Please pre book as places are limited and the sessions are extremely popular.

Teen tennis 

For all teenagers who would like to play more singles ……Caroline Barr is organising a ‘ladder’ for the teenage members. Please contact her on b4barr@aol.com   for more information and how to become involved. 

The Club will be defending their title in the Black Sheep Junior League.  If you are at secondary school and under 17 and would like to play please contact Caroline.

Friendly Matches: Ladies Doubles and Mixed Doubles.

Throughout the season there will be the opportunity for all members to play in social, friendly matches arranged with neighbouring villages. Claire Blackett would love to hear from you if you would like to be involved or find out more. Please contact her on clairelblackett@gmail.com.
